Psalm 27:14 tells us to “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord.”
It is so easy to jump in front of God, even if we are following what we believe to be His will for our life. Time and time again, God gives us examples of men who did great things, but got off to the races a little too early and really messed some things up. Moses got ahead of God when he killed an Egyptian. Sure, God wanted to free his people, and he wanted to use Moses to do it, but Moses was about 40 years too early and it caused him all kinds of problems. And Abraham, God directly told him what he wanted to do, to give a son to him and Sarah, yet Abraham and Sarah became impatient and it created a whole big mess for them with Hagar and Ishmael.
In my studying, I have found 29 Bible verses on waiting on God, and I’m sure there are many more. Why is it so important that we wait on his timing? Because when we jump in front of God and take the ball out of his hands, we miss the incredible lessons of the journey, we handcuff God from doing incredibly more than we can, and we often mess things up and actually delay ourselves further (Moses). So, if your unsure of your next steps, if you’re waiting on God to do something or to show you something, here’s three things that have helped me and I hope they will help you also:

  1. Stay in God’s word through Bible study, fasting, and praying
  2. Talk to Godly men and women (leaders) who are trustworthy and allow God to speak to you through their advice.
  3. Learn contentment for where you presently are, this allows God to use you in new ways beyond what you could imagine.

The bottom line; wait on the Lord and HE, HE will lift you up!
