What I tell you in the dark, say in the light, and what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. – Matthew 10:27

Athletes grow in endurance and strength through strenuous training. How many times have we watched people overcome adversity and become successful? I can think of a few great stories that I’ve seen as I watched American Ninja Warrior with my 3 boys (it’s their favorite show).

A key ingredient to success through trials is the ability to dig in, carry on, and grind through tough times. Another attribute that I’ve noticed is that those who come through difficulties with success tend to have been humble and quiet during their difficulties. It just seems that those who complain, grumble, become prideful (like I’m better than this), or try to make things happen on their own power, tend to be less successful in really succeeding on the other side of their trials.
Jesus speaks to our actions during both adversity and success. In Matthew 10 Jesus tells us to listen during dark times and proclaim during the good times (light). It’s pretty hard to listen when we are grumbling or speaking out against injustices against us. What God wants is for us to be silent and listen when we are going through difficulties, so that we hear from Him and can proclaim His truths and goodness from the housetops when we are finally through our tough times.
So, if you’re in a season of real struggle, try quieting your spirit and your heart. Get into God’s word…listen to what he has for you, so that one day, you can proclaim it from the housetops.
