Proverbs 16:3 tells us to commit our work to the Lord and our plans will be established.
Hard work is underrated in our tech savvy and entitlement-driven society. The late Dr. Jerry Falwell, whom I loved like a grandfather, didn’t sit back and wait for Thomas Road Baptist Church or Liberty University to just happen. No, he worked very hard and he prayed even harder. Very early every morning Dr. Falwell would pray very hard for the vision that God had given him. But, he also took action, Dr. Falwell would visit 100 homes per day, yes 100 homes per day! He would just let them know that Thomas Road Baptist Church was there and ask if there was anything he or the church could do for them; that was in addition to hard work of managing a growing church. Yet, somehow in the midst of all that hard work, Dr. Falwell was compassionate and kind and always had time for people. He always had a smile and loved to laugh.
Now Thomas Road is one of America’s premier churches and Liberty University (including online degrees) is the largest private university in America!
If you were to research giants of the faith or people who really made a difference with their life, there were no special tricks, no gimmicks…the most common trait you’ll find is hard work and perseverance. So, if you’re waiting on something special to happen or your frustrated, keep working hard, keep at it…God will bless your hard work.
